Devil's Hole

I have been working to edit and organize the hundreds of photographs I have from my trip to Hayasdan last summer and I just finished this one. It is looking up at the hole in the top of the monastery in Haghpat, Armenia. I cropped the image so that it was perfectly square in order to highlight the symmetry of the subject. I also reduced the brightness of the incoming light so that the intricate stone carving surrounding the hole is visible. These so-called "devil's holes" are found in the roof of most Armenian chapels and they provide an exit for evil spirits (and for incense).

August trip to Grafton Notch with Rymie

Rymie in the tent. Amazing trip, but we made the mistake of going without cushioning for our backs.

The view from our tent: wilderness.

This is the lake (actually it is a pond--Speck pond, to be exact) where we camped for the night. Simply beautiful.
